Somaskanda is a Hindu iconographic form depicting Lord Shiva, his consort Parvati (Uma), and their son Skanda (Murugan) as a family. Emerging during the Pallava Dynasty in South India (6th-8th centuries), the representation shows a four-armed Shiva seated beside Parvati, with the infant Skanda dancing in ecstasy between them. This depiction represents the divine family and is a significant concept in the Saivite tradition, particularly in Tamil regions, where it's found in temples as panels and bronze sculptures.
